    Amazon News

Amazon apparently now also donates user profiles to Prime Video users - as Netflix has had for a long time. The start of the feature has so far been limited to a few countries.

Netflix and other streaming services have been offering them for a long time, now Prime Video is also introducing user profiles. This will also make it possible for the Amazon service to create different profiles within one household. So far, however, the option is limited to a few countries, as Gadgets-NDTV reports . According to Amazon, the feature is to be rolled out gradually in other countries.

The advantage of such user profiles is, on the one hand, that different members of a household can access the film and series offer at the same time, without losing or messing up recommendations or advances in viewing. In addition, it is also easier to create your own profiles for the children in order to better keep them away from adult content. Incidentally, it fits that the special children's profile should automatically filter out inappropriate content.

In total, up to six profiles can be created in the future, at least one of which - that of the creator - must be assigned to an adult. New profiles, except that of the creator, can also be deleted. Renaming should also be possible, but not changing the avatar. The profiles are to be set up, explained using the Android app as an example, under the "My Videos" menu item. So far, users have seen their downloads, the so-called watch list and purchases.

However, according to the Gadgets-NDTV report, the new user profiles are limited to certain devices, including Android devices as well as iPhones and iPads, Fire tablets as well as Chrome-cast and Apple TV devices. The web version should also offer support for the new profiles. Interestingly, the creation of user profiles should not work on Fire TV devices, Alexa devices with a display and older Amazon tablets. When the function comes to Germany is unclear. Only then will we see how exactly the function is designed.
Fittingly: Against the background of the Corona crisis, Amazon has announced that parts of its Prime Video offer will be made available free of charge to children worldwide. The focus is currently on preschool and primary school children. Further content should be added. Negotiations with right holders are possible. All that is now required is an Amazon account, but no Prime subscription, as Future-zone reports .
