    Google finally cancels developer conference I / O 2020

Google had started two weeks ago to send registered participants of the Google I / O 2020 cancellations planned for May. The event should be carried out as a purely digital event. Now Google completely pulls the plug on the format.

Shortly after the cancellation of Google Cloud Next 2020 and its reinvention as an online event "Google Cloud Next 2020: Digital Connect" it became known that the organizer had sent the participants of Google I / O 2020  cancellations.

Shortly afterwards, Google updated the official website for the event and confirmed the cancellation. After that, Google did not want to host the I / O in the Shoreline amphitheater opposite the Google in California's Mountain View. Nevertheless, the most important Google event of the year for developers should not be a failure.
Instead, Google said it was already working on ideas for implementing I / O as a virtual event. The appointment in mid-May 2020 should be kept.

The expectation was that the implementation of the Google I / O into the virtual should not pose too big problems for the provider. After all, Google had already largely streamed its developer conference in the past.

instead, they want to focus on how to help them cope with the corona crisis, Google speaks of the "new challenges we all face". The company will communicate updates about Android via the well-known blogs and forums.
The decisive factor for the decision was probably the request of the authorities in the San Francisco Bay Area to avoid all unnecessary routes outside their own four walls. In order to launch a virtual event, however, film crews and development teams would have to be gathered to pre-produce the streams. Basically, Google would only have waived the conference participants, but should still have all the other people involved. This appears to the Group and the authorities to be too great a risk.
