Microsoft's Chromium-based browser
About a year after announcing the new Chromium-based Edge browser, Microsoft has released a release candidate (RC), a near-finished version with all the features, for Windows and the Mac. The release of the final version is scheduled for January 15, 2020. According to Microsoft, the finished Edge version is not only available for Windows 10 and macOS, but also for older OS versions of the Redmond, such as Windows 7 and 8.1. Before the big release, Microsoft has given the browser a new logo to make it stand out from the old Edge version. The release candidate will appear a few months after the release of the beta version and the announcement of a finished version in early 2020. The version now provided includes, among other things, a sync function for passwords, history, favorites, and settings via Windows, macOS, iOS and Android time. The new version also includes new tracking protection, which is enabled by default.
As a search engine, of course, the in-house product Bing is preset by default, but it can also be changed according to your own wishes. The home page of the new Edge browser is called Microsoft's Enterprise New Tab. This tab features an intranet search feature that gives you quick access to Office 365 apps, as well as employee information, office locations, building floor plans, and company abbreviation definitions. This is a part of Microsoft Search that integrates with Edge and is part of Bing. In addition, the new browser should be compatible with Active Directory accounts.
By combining web and intranet search, Microsoft plans to build a bridge between the two worlds to enable more productive work, the company said. The release candidate can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.
