Barbiturate overdose can be dangerous. It become fetal sometimes. Its a drug and main function is to act on central nervous system to eliminate depression. This drug can be used for treatment of anxiety. They reduce the activity of nerve causing muscle relaxation. Normally medicine of central nervous system need to use as caution especially when it is depressant drugs. Use can lead to lethargy and in several case coma or death. 

Monroe died due to actuate barbiturates poisoning. Empty medicine bottle was found near to her bed. The possibility is Monroe accidentally  overdose the medicine. In the after decades several conspiracy theory including Murder theory were highlighted. However on investigation no foul play was found.
